Another week, another weekly wrap! I really don’t know what is going on with me lately. During the week, I feel like I’m getting good solid workouts in, then when I sit down to work on my post for this link-up, I think …”that’s it? No wonder, I’m not losing these extra pounds that Aunt Minnie has gifted me!” Then I vow to amp it up for the coming week only to find myself in the same boat the following Sunday…. sigh On a more positive note …it was an absolutely beautiful week with plenty of sunshine and warm weather for said workouts!
To be fair and honest, I must admit that I did indulge in National Margarita Day on Wednesday followed by a night out with friends on Thursday where another margarita was involved (because you can’t eat Mexican food without a Margarita)! There was another dinner with friends on Saturday night which I tried to eat healthier …salmon, steamed veggies and corn grits. I know, the grits is where I went wrong …but oh my goodness, if you’ve ever had good ole Southern cheese grits, you’d understand why I couldn’t resist! With all of the facts on the table …maybe my workouts are not to blame this week but rather my overindulgence in the food and libations department. I’ll try to keep that in check this week. (And while I’m ‘fessing up to things …in case you missed it, I had a few things to confess in the monthly Runfessions link-up as well!)
In addition to these slight bobbles, I’ve been intentionally running less and trying to vary my cardio in order to allow myself time to adjust to my new orthotics. I alluded to this a few weeks ago …did I mention that I have a love/hate relationship with them? Well, it is getting better, but I’m still not completely sold on them yet. Tuesday will be two weeks since I got them and I can now wear them all day with minimal to no discomfort. I have not yet tried running with them yet. I was told I should not run with them until I got a new pair of running shoes. They should arrive on Monday and hopefully, Tuesday I can try them out with the orthotics. I’ll admit that I’m not looking forward to running with these suckers ….they are considered to be “very aggressive” in the arch support. If it has taken me two weeks to get adjust to walking with these, I know it will take quite a while before I can run any significant distance with them …and patience is not one of my virtues. But, considering the price tag of them, I will make them work!
I’m anxious to get back to running regular miles and building back up to a solid base mileage for half marathon training. However, I am enjoying the variation in my workouts lately….
In addition to our dinners with friends, Major Hubs and I had a fabulous weekend. It was the first weekend of the month that he was home for the entire weekend, as he’s been quite the busy soldier this month. We decided to escape the city life and head to the family farm for a little peace and quiet and target practice. I mean, what red-blooded American doesn’t enjoy exercising their 2nd amendment right?
….okay, the bullseye was not my shot, but I still made it in the black, so you really don’t want to mess with me! 🙂
I seriously like shooting the hubs 9mil…felt totally like a badass! The revolver was a bit too heavy for me and just too big for my hands. It was fun and nice to get away sans television, cell phone and social media …you know, just like the “olden days”.
In racing news, I do have my first ‘official’ race of the year coming up this weekend since the Ms Blues half marathon was ‘iced’ out. Major Hubs and I will be taking on the Run thru History 10k in my hometown of Vicksburg. It is a very challenging course run entirely in the Vicksburg National Military Park with a real canon shot signaling the start of the race and usually always an appearance by Generals Grant and Lee. I’ve run this race before with my PR being right at a 10mm pace and considering the hills on this course and lack of consistent running lately, that PR will most likely not be broken this year.
Later this month, I’ll be running a couple of local 5k’s … St. Paddy’s Day and a Wine themed race (couldn’t pass that one up). June brings the Utah Valley half where I’ll be meeting several of you for a ‘bloggers meetup’! Whoop, whoop! I’d love to get a spring half marathon in to get these legs prepared for June, so if anyone has any suggestions, I’m listening. I’m also hoping to do a couple of duathlons on the Mississippi Coast, the Woolmarket series, if anyone is interested in joining me. Holly and I are still planning on a metric century soon …come on, I know some of you cyclists out there want to join us for that!
