It may come as a surprise to you that statistics show 1 in every 6 American women have been assaulted.  While there are no official statistics regarding assaults against women while running, jogging or cycling, Runner’s World conducted a survey and revealed the results in their article, Running While Female. This Week’s Gallivantin’: Winding Down Summer

Instead of lazily lingering as they did when I was growing up, the ‘dog days of summer’ are just racing right on by! July is history, we are already a week into August and it’s time for another Weekly Wrap with Holly, Tricia and guest hostess Heather at 3 Black Cat Co.

If you are new to my blog and not familiar with the Weekly Wrap, let me just say that you have stumbled into a great group of women who link up each week for the sole purpose of encouraging, motivating and keeping one another accountable on our fitness journeys. Please join us!

While the week, for the most part, was uneventful, I’m pleased with the quality of my workouts. I’m not sure what to attribute it to, but I’m thrilled to report that over the past month, I’ve lost 6 pounds! Is is the fact that I’m not dealing with those insatiable ‘rungries’ in the absence of any significant running miles? Is it the variety of workouts keeping my body guessing and the furnace burning? Or could it be the replenishment of hormones my body had been lacking? I don’t know, but whatever it is ….I’m thrilled to be able to button some of my shorts and slacks without having to suck in my gut to the point of oxygen deprivation. #simplegoals

Ultimate Coffee Date: August Edition

Good morning and welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date! The original plan was that I’d be about 30 miles into a 62 mile ride this morning in Greenwood at the Bike, Blues and Bayous bike ride by now. However, it’s kind of difficult to participate in a ride when your bike is in the shop, so therefore, I’m coming to you from my couch with coffee in hand and sulking just a little. Of course all is not a total loss ….Major Hubs put a smile on my face when asked if I would like to go furniture shopping. Well, yes of course I do …right after my virtual coffee date with the ladies!

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the #1 reason the majority of people give for beginning an exercise program is weight loss with a heart health coming in second. However, it may surprise you to know that statistics show over 50% of those individuals beginning a new exercise program will not stick with it more than 6 months. Why? The most common reason is that their expectations were not met.

Heart rate training has been used successfully by elite athletes for decades. With the rise of fitness trackers and sports watches on the market, heart rate training is now possible for not only the moderately experienced athlete but beginners as well.

If you’re a seasoned runner, cyclist and/or fitness enthusiast, you already know the importance and benefits of heart rate training. Therefore; this post is geared more for those individuals who are just beginning their fitness journey, unfamiliar with heart rate training and are focused on losing weight. Heart Zones, Inc.
